The 2023 Burt Munro Challenge covered all the bases … road bikes, dirt bikes, ATVs and speedway machines, including sidecars … it was a massive celebration of all things motorised on two wheels.
This year’s 16th anniversary Burt Munro Challenge was a huge occasion, especially since it had been abandoned in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first time that it had been cancelled since it all began in 2006.
On the Saturday afternoon of the Burt Munro Challenge it was time for the country’s speedway stars to shine and today we offer you a few photos from that wild afternoon of action at the Super Seller Shelley Speedway circuit.

The nation’s elite were there, national solo No.1 George Congreve, No.2 Ben Whalley, No.3 Finn Reed, No.4 Caleb Chappell and No.5 Ryan Terry Dalley, as well as local hotshot Hayden Brookland. Add to that the impressive sidecars line-up of No.1 James Douglas and Harley Biddle with No.3 Paul Humphrey and Chris Chatfield and you really had a who’s who of Kiwi speedway talent and what a great show they put on for the large crowd.
The Peewees, juniors and classics were impressive too.
