Italian Antonio Cairoli has just signed off on a long and highly successful Grand Prix motocross career.
Performing brilliantly right until the end, the nine-time world champion enjoyed a hugely successful 2021 season and he remained in contention for the championship title right up to the few final rounds.
Cairoli proved he not only had the ability to mix it with his younger rivals, but he had the speed to win.
At the close of the year, Cairoli’s win tally had increased to 94 GP victories – an incredible achievement and one that will be forever hard to beat.
Cairoli won the MX2 world championships title in 2005 and 2007, before graduating to the MX1 (later renamed MXGP) class, winning the ultimate crown six successive seasons, in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and then again in 2017. He settled for sixth overall in this, his swansong season.
Grazie Tony – thank you for the ride.
