Round four of the popular NZ Grand National Cross-country Championship (GNCC) will be held at Maddix Park in Tauranga this Saturday and it’s sure to attract the cream of New Zealand’s dirt biking stars.
“Maddix is a new venue for the series, but an old favourite,” says the organiser of this MotoSR-sponsored series, Manawatu’s Paul Whibley, himself a two-time winner of the United States GNCC and six-time winner of the US Off-Road Motorcycle series as well.
“I’m excited to bring it in for 2020. I raced at Maddix a number of years ago during breaks back from GNCCs in the States and loved it. Lots of variety, technical in places, flowing native bush and great spectator viewing on the motocross section.
“I have had a bulldozer going round ready for Saturday. Pushing out some ruts, widening, linking brand-new tracks and extending the lap length. The riders are going to have great fun.”
According to Whibley, leading riders such as Callum Dudson, Seth Reardon and Ethan Harris are among the serious contenders to watch out for.
The best five results from six rounds held throughout the North Island are counted, so everyone is still in with a chance of winning the series outright.
Cross country racing is for all ages. It is fantastic to see dads, sons, brothers, mothers, daughters, and friends lining up in hot competition, to watch enthusiasm battling experience. With junior, senior, women and veterans’ classes, everyone is catered for. Riders enter on the day and there is no licence required.
So, how about it, all you trail riders out there? Challenge yourself to catch or keep up with that one rider ahead, and come and have a blast.
Junior race start is at 9.30am. Seniors start at 12 noon.
Venue: Maddix Park, 465 Rowe Road, Ohauiti via Welcome Bay, Tauranga.
