HOUSTON … WE HAVE NO PROBLEM
Husqvarna rider Jason Anderson has taken over the points lead in the 450sx class of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross after dominating the competition and taking a massive, come-from-behind main event win, while in the 250 class, Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger took the win.
After a few years off the schedule, AMA Supercross championship headed to Houston, TX for the second round of the series.
Anderson’s job was made somewhat easier with current points leader Marvin Musquin (KTM) going down in his heat race and calling it a night before the main with an injured shoulder. Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac didn’t start the night after struggling to cope with a shoulder injury from the opening round. Anderson’s own team-mate Dean Wilson was also a scratching.
From the very first lap of the day, Anderson was in the zone and rolled on his own momentum all night long riding with the perfect mix of raw speed and control.
The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider stole the show and notched his 2nd career victory in Houston’s NRG Stadium after chasing down early pace setters Weston Peick, Justin Barcia and Ken Roczen in the final and eventually cruising to a comfortable win.
“Houston was probably the most perfect day I’ve ever had in my career,” said Anderson. “I won every time I was on the track – both practices, heat race and main. It was a battle, but it was awesome. I’m in the zone but, at the same time, I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I feel good and I’m in a good spot.”
HRC Honda’s Ken Roczen improved from the opening round carding a solid second place and is only getting stronger with each round. The much improved and focused Barcia took his Factory Yamaha to the third step of the podium.
The Western Regional 250SX class saw Plessinger steadily move past front runners. Joey Savatgy, Chase Sexton and Adam Cianciarulo to take the win by just under five seconds. The win also sees the change of Championship leaders Red Plate with the Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha rider now taking it back to Anaheim with a four-point advantage over Shane McElrath.
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy was second with Chase Sexton taking third. Shane McElrath still remains in the points hunt after finishing 4th,
The championship now returns to Anaheim, Calif. on January 20 for round 3.
