WATCHING THE WEATHER
MotoGP World Championship leader Marc Marquez is mindful that the weather may have a huge role to play at the British GP at Silverstone this weekend.
The Spanish rider, who leads the championship by 53 points from Italian Valentino Rossi, is prepared for the unpredictable as he attempts to extend his title advantage on Sunday.
“Silverstone is a place where the weather is generally quite unpredictable, meaning that cold and rain are variables you have to be prepared to face. We’ve encountered mixed conditions situations more than once this year, and we saw how important it is to remain focused and make the right choices,” said Honda’s Marquez.
“We’ll see what happens during the weekend and we’ll try to manage the situation with the same mindset that has gotten us this far. I like the track a lot; it has a slower first section but then there’s a series of ‘esses’ where it’s possible to make the difference if you find a good set-up for the bike.
“I’ve always enjoyed racing there and we’ll push at the maximum to get the best result possible.”
Marquez won at Silverstone in 2010 in the 125cc class and 2014 in MotoGP. He has also finished on the podium finishes in three of his last four appearances in Moto2 and MotoGP.
Yamaha’s Rossi is 53 points behind Marquez, but, with seven GPs to going, including this weekend’s event, the pressure is still on Marquez to keep performing.
Rossi’s Yamaha team-mate, Spanish defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo is third in the rankings, just six points further back.
