CAIRNS TACKLES THE AUSSIES
Five-times New Zealand Women’s Enduro Champion Natasha Cairns continues to show us what she is made of.
Her mental toughness, determination, ongoing consistency and skills on a dirt bike give her the edge that both girls and boys, could only dream about when she tackled the Australian Four Days Enduro recently.
The hard work that goes in behind the scenes cannot go unnoticed.
After being selected to ride for the Queensland Women’s Trophy Team alongside top Australian riders Jemma Wilson and Mel Bruce, Kiwi heroine Cairns headed over the ditch to compete in the A4DE in Tasmania.
The weather played its part and Cairns was able to rub shoulders with professional riders such as Jess Gardner and Tayla Jones. Cairns said it was “nothing like NZ Enduro. It was very fast, no grovelling and nothing overly technical”.
Four big days of riding (2-6 hours each day) saw her finish up with an awesome result in fifth place (2nd team) however, she was “naturally disappointed” with this.
It has shown what her weaknesses are and she says “it’s given her a good reason to head back, hopefully next year”.
It’s wicked to see kiwi girls making a name for themselves on the international stage. Keep an eye out for Cairns, along with other up-and-coming enduro riders such as Rachael Archer, Janelle Walker and Deidre Kiernan in the 2016 New Zealand Enduro Championship kicking off in February.
