MOSS REMAINS CONFIDENT
Does Matt Moss have what it takes to make it three Australian MX1 motocross titles in a row?
It’s the question everyone has been asking. Can the defending MX1 champion redeem himself after his disappointing 13th overall finish at the 2015 season opener?
With two MX1 championships already under his belt, it’s safe to say the pressure was on when Moss kicked off his third championship hunt in Horsham only two weekends ago.
However, Moss, who has probably put down more laps at Appin than Luke Clout, will be handed the perfect opportunity to kick the talk, when round two of the MX Nationals kicks off at Appin this Sunday.
So, just to clear things up – what happened at Horsham?
“I had a bit of a crash on the Friday before Horsham and I wasn’t feeling the best leading into the round. Obviously I crashed in the first moto and hurt my neck, and then threw up after the second race. To be honest I just wasn’t feeling good and it’s just bad luck really.
“Pressure doesn’t bother me, not at all. I don’t let anyone put pressure on me.
“I just think it was just one of those things, there was a wheel rut where they had fixed up the track and that’s why I crashed and unfortunately hurt my neck.”
It has been said that it’s much harder to defend a championship, but is the third time even more difficult than the second?
“I’m not too sure yet. We’ve obviously only had one round. Obviously if I have rounds like I did at Horsham it’s going to be really hard. But I know I’m behind in the championship now, and I know what I need to do and that’s just win races.
“I think it’s easier to chase down a championship than lead one, but not as easy being 40 points behind, But it’s very doable. I’m not really worried about being behind. As long as nothing else goes wrong, and I don’t have any other little crashes the championship is still very much in my reach.
“I’ve done the sums and I know exactly what I need to do.”
A bit of an Appin local, will that give Moss added confidence heading into round two?
“I’ve won there before, I feel good there and I’m a bit of a local. I do a lot of riding at Appin and I’ll have my whole family there on the weekend to support me, so I reckon we’re good to go.”
