The big winners at the opening round of the New Zealand Motocross Championships in Taranaki today were Queenstown’s Scotty Columb (MX1), Australia’s Jay Wilson (MX2) and Taupo’s Cohen Chase (125cc).

Leading results:

MX1 class: 1. Columb; 2. Kirk Gibbs (Australia); 3. John Phillips (Rotorua); 4. Cody Cooper (Mount Maunganui); 5. Kade Mosig (Australia).

MX2 class: 1. Wilson; 2. Micah McGoldrick (Amberley); 3. Hamish Harwood (Takaka); 4. Hayden Kanters (Otorohanga); 5. Campbell King (Brighton).

125cc class: 1. Chase; 2. Josiah Natzke (Hamilton); 3. Ben Broad (Ngatea); 4. Kurtis Lilly (Karaka); 5. Reece Walker (Nelson).
