KIWI FRIEND INJURED
Britain’s Jake Nicholls has been sidelined with injury.
The Wilvo Forkrent KTM team rider clashed with another rider during the fifth round of the British Championship last weekend at Whitby and broke his finger.
As he went down, Jake hit the ground hard badly breaking the little finger on his throttle hand. He underwent an immediate operation to piece the shattered bones back together.
The procedure included the finger being wired and pinned as well as having an external fixator fitted. A further operation to remove the metalwork will be required in approximately 5-6 weeks.
“We are all gutted for Jake,” said team manager Steve Turner. “It was a really nasty break and although many people think ‘it’s only a little finger and can’t be that serious’ that’s obviously not the case. Jake’s proved in the past that he has what it takes to fully recover from setbacks like this and I’m sure he will show the same determination again this time.”
Kiwis will recall the staggering speed of Nicholls when he raced in New Zealand in 2013, easily winning the MX2 class at Woodville GP that season, along with making many firm friends during his training stay in the country.
Nicholls caught up with BikesportNZ.com and some of his other Kiwi friends when he raced for Great Britain at the Motocross of Nations in Germany last September. We all wish him the best for a speedy recovery.
