Australian MX Development (under-19) class challenger Jack Simpson has added two state championships to his resume, including his first senior championship, after last weekend’s final round of the Victoria state series at Shepparton and he heads to Raymond Terrace, in New South Wales, next weekend for round eight of the Australian nationals in a confident mood.

The Tune-Tech KTM rider wrapped up both the U19 and Pro Lites classes of the Victorian Motocross Championships, which took in rounds at Horsham, Rosebud, Colac and Shepparton.

Simpson entered the final round leading the U19 title by 28 points after winning two rounds previously, and clean-swept the proceedings on his KTM 250 SX, to bring his tally to eight race wins from 12, sealing the victory by 42 points over Jesse McNally and James Alen.

In the Pro Lites, things were much closer with Simpson having won just one of the three prior rounds, but the KTM rider got most of the hard work done up front, winning the first and second motos before taking the crown with a third place in the final moto.

Simpson currently lies second in the standings of the MX Nationals MXD class, just ten points in arrears of championship leader Jed Beaton, and will continue the battle for the national title on August 3 at Raymond Terrace.

“I’ve never won the Pro Lites before, so I can run the number 1 next year and I’m pretty happy about that!” said Simpson.

“I went in there with a bit of expectation, wanting to win the U19 and the Pro Lites class, but when I went out and won the first two Pro Lites motos all I had to do was get third in the last one to win the overall for the day. I won the day and the series and was super pumped about that! The U19 was three holeshots, three wins. All I wanted to do was pull the holeshot and get the hell out of there, and that’s what I did.

“The bike was awesome, Steve Jones from Tune Tech suspension had the thing dialled in because that’s actually his home track and it didn’t miss a beat all weekend. In fact it got six holeshots out of six! The KTM 250 SX has been awesome, the perfect bike for my riding style, and it goes pretty damn good.”
