SOUTH ISLAND ROUND TWO
Round two of the Beta South Island enduro series was held in Peraki Bay, near Christchurch, over the weekend.
With good weather having graced the area in the lead up to the event and, contrary to Metservice predictions, the rain stayed away until late in the day, showing up just in time to make things a little more tricky for the South Island’s top enduro riders in the final loops of the day.
The event consisted of two different trail loops, both of which were ridden twice, with experts also completing an ‘expert only’ loop twice throughout the day. Each loop had one special test which added to a total of four tests for the day.
This saw riders set for a solid five hours of saddle time on the steep, rock infested hills of Peraki station.
At the end of a hard day’s riding, it was round one runner-up Christchurch’s Hamish Macdonald (Beta RR300) who took a solid win over Christchurch’s Jacques Bakkenes (Husaberg TE300) (pictured here) with Gore’s Jason Duff (KTM 300EXC) filling the number three spot.
With round one winner Mosgiel’s Joel Hennessey (Yamaha YZ250) carding a no-show due to work commitments, Christchurch’s Hamish Macdonald now holds the outright points lead but, with the ‘drop a round’ rule, the series win is still within reach of a handful of riders.
A big thanks go out to Beta for sponsoring the series and to the Christchurch club for all their hard work as well as Mark Macdonald and all his helpers for running a top-class event.
Riders now head to Alexandra for round three of the series on May 3.
