The Suzuki rider had a fight on his hands with Hamilton Kawasaki rider Nick Cole and Christchurch Suzuki rider Dennis Charlett making him work for every point.

Round two is Manfeild, on the outskirts of Feilding, this Sunday, with the third and final round set for the traditional Cemetery Circuit street races around Whanganui on Boxing Day.
