THE RED KNIGHTS OF MX
You may know that the ‘Red Devils’ are the national soccer team of Belgium.
With their remarkable results recently, they have been named one of the outsiders to win the World Cup next year in Brazil. But, anyway, that’s football (soccer).
Belgium’s Motocross of Nations team manager Joël Smets noticed that about any national team in Belgium is related to red followed by an impressive animal or a strong character. That’s why he baptized the national motocross team as the ‘RED KNIGHTS’.
After the disappointment of last year in Lommel, riders Jeremy van Horebeek (MX2), Ken de Dycker (MX1) and Clement Desalle (Open) are ready to get the Chamberlain Trophy back in Belgium for the first time since 2004.
Just as the previous years, an important rider in the rich Belgian motocross history is honoured on the team shirt. This time there’s a portrait of 5-time world champion Georges Jobé on the shirt.
Georges unfortunately lost his battle against cancer last December.
He was known as a great sportsman who never gave up until he reached his goal. Putting his portrait on the shirts is a perfect way to honour Georges Jobe for the many memories he left us.
His daughter Maité attended the presentation and told to be proud about her father on the shirt. She said if felt really special and hopes the team can win the race with his moral support.
