FROM MX3 TO MX1
The 24MX Honda Racing team is happy to announce the presence of Klemen Gercar, current leader in the MX3 World Championship, for this weekend’s GP of Finland in Hyvinkää.
After a breakout 2012 season in the MX3 World Championship the 22-year old Slovenian is continuing his strong form in 2013. Klemen won two GPs and only finished outside of the podium once.
Clearly at ease on the bigger capacity bike Gercar has managed to turn his career around after a difficult, injury-marred time in the MX2 GPs. However the Ufo rider previously did make his mark on a 250 bike as well.
He came 3rd in the 2009 EMX2 series behind Christophe Charlier and Jeffrey Herlings and won the 2007 European Jr. MX2 title.
“My goals for 2013 are clear,” said Gercar. “I want to win the world title in MX3 and I want to get a foot in the door to race MX1 GPs next year! With the break we have in the MX3 calendar this is a great opportunity to gain experience among the best MX1 guys.
“I know the level is really high for the moment but this is a good test to see where I stand. I’m sure it’s going to be an interesting weekend! I want to thank my team Ufo MX Racing for their understanding and Steven (Lettani) for this chance.”
Steven Lettani, 24MX Honda Racing team manager and owner said Gercar was “one of those guys who’s been making quite a lot of progress even when it’s been out of the limelight”.
“When I saw him racing in Maggiora last month, you could see he’s on the right track. As often is the case with replacement rides there’s always a degree of being thrown in at the deep end!
“But we know that Klemen is working hard, he’s is motivated and has a great attitude. Of course we will support him in the best possible way as well.
“Because he’s normally racing on the 2012 CRF450R the Finnish GP might be a bit of a change, although I think it’s a good one!”
