SERIES KICKS OFF
Now in its third year, the South Island enduro series is once again about to kick off near Christchurch this weekend.
The KTM-sponsored series opener is set for the rugged, scenic terrain of Peraki Bay, near Christchurch this Sunday (March 24).
With the series this season boosted to five rounds and the appointment of former national enduro champion Mark MacDonald as series coordinator to take care of the finer details. The South Island enduro scene is looking to step up its game.
All the usual front runners are expected to front at the series opener, with 2012 outright and unders class champion Kelly Paterson looking to defend his title. It will be worth watching for Invercargill’s Greg Baynes (pictured here) and local riders Jacques Bakkenes and Steven Kelly, Gore’s Ben and Gerald Turnbull, Jason Duff and Ryan MacKenzie, Alexandra’s Joe and Logan Forsyth, as well as Maruia’s Ethan Bruce will be among the riders looking to take the fight to the defending champ at the opening round
The series is looking to cater more towards trail riders, with the inclusion of a trail rider class this season for those looking for a good ride.
While the experts will have plenty to keep them entertained with harder trail sections to challenge the more experienced riders.
Round two of the series is set for Alexandra on May 5.
