SCRAMBLING IN AUCKLAND
Carrying on from the phenomenal success of the 2009 event, Red Bull City Scramble returns to the Auckland waterfront on Sunday April 1.
Located within T Pier on Westhaven Drive, in Auckland’s waterfront, the new purpose built course will challenge the best Enduro riders like never before.
International riders are coming from as far as South Africa, USA, UK and Germany to compete in the infamous City Scramble, they will no doubt make the challenge for City Scramble glory a formidable task.
Germany’s Andreas Lettenbichler, who took finished third in 2009, is returning for a second chance at the title. He will be joining familiar faces Chris Birch, Geoff Aaron and Graham Jarvis who he regularly competes against on the international Enduro circuit.
Britain’s Jarvis, currently at the top of his game, is coming off the back of a substantial winning streak in the Northern Hemisphere. Jarvis will be one to watch as he hopes to use his many years of enduro experience to dominate the field and add to his victorious season.
American rider Aaron will hope that his stature and trials finesse will give him a competitive edge throughout this technically demanding course. “Trials riding teaches balance and control of the motorcycle. Those skills transfer to all types of riding and make you a safer better rider” says Aaron.
Course designer and multi-time NZ enduro champion Birch will be aiming for better luck than in 2009 when the course that he designed turned on him, pinning him in a corner, relinquishing his lead to fellow Kiwi Rory Mead and putting him on the second tier of the podium.
Will Chris’ design be a formidable course or will the riders rise to the challenge and scramble to the finish line? Will Chris again succumb to his own creation or will our local hero take the City Scramble glory that eluded him in 2009?
The only way to find out is to come down and check out the action at T Pier, Westhaven Drive, Downtown Auckland on Sunday April 1st.
Race action starts on the day at 10am. This is a free event for spectators with toilets, food and beverage on site as well as plenty of parking and public transport options.
