RUSSIAN CLEAN SWEEP
Russian rider Evgeny Bobryshev won his first ever MX GP at the weekend, sweeping both MX1 class motos at round nine of the FIM World Motocross Championships in Germany.
Defending champion Tony Cairoli, of Italy, who is the series points leader, finished second overall and extended his series points lead.
Germany’s Ken Roczen, who is the leading the MX2 class series points, also won his home Grand Prix. Second in MX2 went to the ever improving Frenchman Gautier Paulin.
In the MX2 class, look at the results and see how close the top four were in scoring.
Roczen’s 1-3 in the two motos gave him top position on the podium, and he also extended his series points lead. Paulin finished second overall, followed by Britain’s Tommy Searle, Dutch youngster Jeffrey Herlings, Swiss rider Arnaud Tonus and American Zach Osborne.
In the MX1 class, Honda rider Bobryshev (pictured above) celebrated winning his first ever MX GP, and he did it in style, topping both motos.
Cairoli finished second overall (2-2), but even without being on the top step of the podium, Tony extended his series points lead.
Putting in a solid ride was Belgian Clement Desalle, finishing third overall. In his return to GP racing, French rider Christophe Pourcel was officially scored as 32nd, with no points.
In other news, the German Team riders were announced for the upcoming Motocross of Nations in France. They will be Max Nagl in MX1, Roczen in MX2, and Marcus Schiffer in the open class.
Next weekend is the MX Grand Prix of Latvia.
