NEW NAME WILL BE ON TROPHY
Feilding’s Craig Shirriffs was king of the streets in downtown Paeroa last season but he definitely won’t be a winner there this weekend.
Shirriffs was unstoppable at the 2010 annual Battle of the Streets motorcycle race meeting in Paeroa, winning the day’s first glamour race, the Formula Paeroa 10-lapper, and then the all-important King of the Streets feature race.
This year he will be a notable absentee, meaning a new name will be etched on the trophy this Sunday afternoon.
That name could be first-timer Dan Stauffer (Yamaha), the Australian star who turned up for the first time at the other Battle of the Streets meeting, the annual Boxing Day event on Wanganui’s Cemetery Circuit, and made history by winning there as a rookie.
But first he’ll have to contend with such talented individuals as Honda’s Hayden Fitzgerald, Auckland Suzuki rider Ray Clee, Tauranga BMW ace Sloan Frost and Whakatane veteran Tony Rees (Yamaha).
Meanwhile, the Mobil 1 investment in a global motorsport program continues with the recent announcement of Mobil 1 as the main sponsor for the Mobil 1 Battle of the Streets this season.
Business development manager Bret Glazer said the Paeroa sponsorship package added to Mobil 1’s proud racing heritage in New Zealand and will serve as part of Mobil 1 Motorsport objectives for the coming years ahead.
“The Mobil 1 brand has proudly been associated with some of New Zealand’s best motor racing talent and events Mobil 1 are very pleased to be able to support the Paeroa event and Motorcycle racing in New Zealand”.
For this year’s event Mobil 1 have arranged for the legendary Britten Motorcycle to be on display in the William Street Mobil 1 Tent.
Mobil 1 will also have one of New Zealand’s greatest Motorcycle racers and current NZ Superbike Champion Andrew Stroud on site during the day Stroud has agreed to do a few laps of the Mobil 1 Battle of the Streets track on the Britten.
Mobil 1 and the Britten have had a strong relationship in development as well as racing, what better way to launch Mobil 1 into the Battle of the Streets”
