Hi everyone
After tha late call up, we here all swung into action to get Chris to Mexico.
Peter Payne from Yamaha NZ moved hevan and earth to get things started, MNZ's Vicky Simm wenet out of her way to get the International Competition Licence done quickly and cam in after hours to do this. Amnazing. A trip to the AA for an international drivers licence worked wll and of course insurance too. Natash Cairnes (motorcycle - enduro and mx rider) from Harvey World Travel in Warkworth arranged tickets at very short notice and sorted the USA Visa problem. Paul from DRD magazine gave Chris time off to go even though as Editor of DRD, Chris has a deadline for the next mag before he gets back. Chris came home to Paeroa to pack still not knowing whether tickets, clearances and visas had been accepted. frantic emails between Wellard team manager Peter Strickland (Wellards ares sponsoring the team), Karl on site, Trevor Power and myself were filling up the broard band space. Finally just before we left for the airport, everything came together and a relieved Chris met Peter Payne at the airport to collect the Wellard team clothing. Last we heard, Chris was getting on a plane to Morelia in Mexico (from Mexico City Airport) to meet the team. He is reported as being very very tired but looking forward to the event. He has not got the opportunity to test ride the YZ250R Yamaha he will be competing on or even set it up to his personal liking as it is already locked in parc Ferme. So it will be head down for as much sleep as possible and straight into it on Monday 1st Mexico time.
This is not as daunting as it may sound. Chris is current 450cc4T NZ Enduro champion and 2010 NZ GNCC Champion plus he also won the Austalian 24 Hour Enduro back in July. So his credentials are more than required. Plus as Editor of DRD magazine, Chris has ridden the Yamaha models being used in Mexico. In fact, Chris attended the Australasian launch of the YZ250 and rode the WR450R yamaha in the Australian 24 Hr Enduro.
No doubt, cousin Karl will have had a hand in advising the Yamaha mechanics how Chris likes his bikes set up. Karl and Chris regularly ride as a team in long distance events riding the same bike so no surprises there. In fact winning both the last Hawkes Bay Six Hour and Castrol Honda 6 hour together will mean Karl knows exactly what to do.
The Team is currently walking the Special Tests (ninus Chris of course) and will be relaxing as best they can before getting geared up for the start.
I wish them well.
Cheers

I think the Red Bull Romaniacs Sibiu is the most difficult hard enduro rally in the world, but I also enjoy scale that has taken this sport in Romania

Great pics. Thanks for putting our bike on the site. Well done to all the competitors at Manfield RD2. It was a tricky weekend with conditions but we learnt heaps and are now back down south for the MCC winter champs.
Good luck everyone.

Bikers Day Out on the day of the final round of the National Superbikes at the new Auckland track? When Stroudy is going to beat the Aussie and win his 8th NZ Superbike title?

You must be joking!
